The Ministry of Sacristan/El Ministerio de Sacristán

The Ministry of Sacristan dates back many centuries in the history of the Catholic Church. A Sacristan works behind the scenes – both before and after a Liturgy takes place preparing for the liturgical celebration as well as taking care of the Sacristy and the sacred items therein.

Qualities of a Sacristan are organizational skills, so that the Mass runs smoothly; people skills for dealing with various ministers involved with the Mass; and a good working relationship with the Clergy. It is also important to be versed in scripture, the flow of the Mass, and the intricacies of the liturgical calendar.

El Ministerio de Sacristán se remonta a muchos siglos atrás en la historia de la Iglesia Católica. Un Sacristán trabaja entre bastidores, tanto antes como después de la Liturgia, preparando la celebración litúrgica y cuidando la Sacristía y los objetos sagrados que contiene.

Las cualidades de un Sacristán son la capacidad de organización, para que la Misa se desarrolle sin problemas; el don de gentes para tratar con los distintos ministros que intervienen en la Misa; y una buena relación de trabajo con el Clero. También es importante ser versado en las escrituras, el flujo de la Misa, y las complejidades del calendario litúrgico.
