Good Friday

Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion Readings

“Yet it was our infirmities that he bore, our sufferings that he endured, while we thought of him as stricken, as one smitten by God and afflicted. But he was pierced for our offenses, crushed for our sins; upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole, by his stripes we were healed.’’

When we find ourselves doing the same things over and over, we have a tendency to follow our motor instincts and just do thing automatically. We enter into the Easter Triduum each year and we remember the Lord’s death and resurrection. But it is not enough to remember. We are called to be active participants in this great mystery of love when our Creator, who loved each of us into existence, suffered death on a cross to be united with us forever.

How do we participate? By embracing the cross, emptying ourselves of worldly desires, and placing ourselves at the mercy of the Lord. As Jesus offered Himself up to death for the sake of all, we too , must offer ourselves up, die to sin, and gain the promise of eternal life.

Whitney Houston sang a song, “One Moment in Time”. Good Friday is our one moment in time to meditate on the passion of our Lord, to be cleansed of our sins, so we too will share in His resurrection.

May God bless you,
